The Night The Glacier Came (part 3)

"Cold enough for you?" the Iceman called down to them. "It's almost cold enough for me."

"It's because of the Glacier," Megan called back.

"A Glacier? Where?"

"Look," Megan said and she pointed.

It was still there all right, only it had come a bit closer since the last time they'd looked. It had rolled right over the nearby airport and buried the runways under its ice.

Rrrrrrrrrrrr...

Luckily it was very late and there weren't any people around. Still, even so, it was a chilling sight.

"I know that Glacier!" the Iceman cried. "It's a very good friend of mine!"

"Ask it what it's doing here," Megan said.

So the Iceman flew his cloud of ice over to the Glacier. He hovered there a moment or two, then he flew back through the air again to where Megan and Winter were waiting.

"No problem," he told them. "The Glacier is only just looking for me. I've been gone for so long from our home up north it was getting lonely. But now that it's found me everything's going to be all right."

"No it's not," Megan told him. "It's not going to be all right at all. We can't have the Glacier here in the city. It'll freeze everything in sight."

"I'm afraid that Glacier will have to go," agreed Winter.

"Oh," said the Iceman. "I suppose that's so. People don't like things as cold as I do."
He flew his cloud over to the Glacier again. A few moments later he returned. "I'm afraid there's a problem after all," he told them. "Now that the Glacier's found me again it isn't lonely any more. In fact it rather likes it here and it wants to stay."

"It can't," explained Megan. "It simply can't!"

"You'll have to convince it to change its mind," Winter said.

"I tried," said the Iceman. "I really did. But have you ever talked to a glacier? They're very stubborn and they don't like to change. You have to be firm and even a bit more than that."

"We're both very small and not all that strong," said Megan. "But you're just as strong as that Glacier is Iceman, so maybe if you were firm like you said..."

The Iceman just shook his head and sighed. "The Glacier is cold already," he told them. "Whatever I did it would just make it more, and the more that it is then the more it will stay. You can't fight cold with cold you know, you need someone hot that can scare it away."
