The Leaves That Wouldn't Fall (part 3)

Everyone sighed and they all sat down to try to decide what to do.

"We can't just pick them," Megan said. "It could hurt them a bit, especially if they're scared,"

"Or it might hurt the tree," said Michael.

"Then I guess we'll have to trick them," said Fall.

"Do you think we can?" Megan asked.

"Absolutely. The whole trouble is, the tree they're in is too far away from the other trees. It grows by itself all alone on this hill and its leaves can't see the other leaves when they jump from their trees. We'll have to show them just how it's done. Now you're all dressed up like trees already, so if we say you're magic trees that can walk and talk and dance and sing, the leaves will believe it's true. Gather a big bunch of fallen leaves and we'll sing a special song I know. When we're all through you can throw your leaves up into the air. The leaves that you throw will look just as if they are real leaves that are jumping off you. The leaves in the tree will see how softly they land and they won't be afraid anymore."

Michael and Megan both agreed it would definitely be a good plan if it worked. So they went away back into the woods and gathered up piles of fallen leaves while Fall helped them learn his song. When they were ready they returned to the tree that was standing alone all by itself. The White Squirrel scampered up into the branches while Michael and Megan got themselves ready down below by the trunk.

"Here come some magic trees," Fall called up and the White Squirrel relayed everything he said to the leaves overhead."These magic trees have a song for you. Would you like to hear them, leaves?"
