When the Dragon came down to the ground again, everyone gathered around to say what a wonderful job he had done. The Dragon was pleased, but he wanted to know when there would be more apples to eat. So Megan promised to get him some more when she woke up the following day.
"That'll be perfect," the Dragon said. "Tomorrow's the last day I'll need to get some. The moon will be full the following night and I'll have that to eat for a while. But I'm sure to get hungry again in two weeks when the moon has to grow and get fat."
So Megan and the Dragon made a deal together. She promised to put out an apple for him when the moon was growing and he had nothing to eat. And the Dragon promised to be on guard and chase away the Glacier again if it ever returned to town.
And that's just the way that it worked out too. Megan told Michael and they both told their friends, and ever after that all the kids in town took turns leaving apples outside their back door for the moon's hungry Dragon. And this is the song that they sang to him so he'd know there was something good to eat:
And if you want to help feed the Dragon too you can take a turn yourself. Just put out an apple outside your back door and sing the song so the Dragon will know where to come. And I'm sure you'll find it's the very best way to keep the icy Glacier away. The Dragon is sure to like it too, he'll like it a lot; the apples will keep his belly full and his fire especially hot.
This story is the fourth in a collection of six stories and twelve songs with numerous black and white pen and ink illustrations throughout. After dealing with the Dragon Who Eats The Moon, Michael and Megan have many adventures with Winter. They call the Iceman, travel to the White Wolf's secret cave, stop a Glacier and have a wonderful going-away party for Winter. Many of the stories can be acted out and continued by the reader in their everyday life. Although this book is set in Toronto, it can be adapted to fit any North American urban centre.
