Sam opened the box and looked inside. His present was a pair of dirty socks. They had holes at the toes and they didn't match.

"Who was that at the door?" his mother called.

"Just someone who came for my birthday," said Sam.

"Make sure he has a good time," said his mother.

Sam went upstairs and peeked through the door. The tiger was having a good time all right. He was stuffing Sam's toys in a pillow case, and whenever he found one he didn't enjoy he just threw it right out through the window. Poor Sam. He tried not to feel too bad about it.

"It'll be okay," he told himself. "I'll get new toys when the party starts. Everyone has to bring presents."

Just then the doorbell rang.

"Oh Sam!" called his mother. "Go see who it is!"
