The Windman (part 5)

 

Michael picked himself up and looked all around. It was hard to see how to escape. The top of the hole was too far to reach. He got up on his tip toes and stretched and stretched, but he still couldn't reach it. He tried to jump, but he couldn't jump that high either. He tried to climb up the sides of the hole, but he kept sliding back down inside. He tried and he tried for a very long time, but after a while he just had to give up because he knew he was stuck and there was nothing he could do...

And then it started to get really dark outside. The coldness from the coming night slipped down into the hole, it slid down Michael's neck and it made him shiver. Michael sat down. He was feeling very sad and all alone.

"I'm stuck in this hole," he told himself. "Nobody knows where I am. My mother doesn't know, my father doesn't know. What am I going to do?"

Then he remembered - the Windman! If he called the Windman song, the Windman might come! So he jumped to his feet and started to call:
