How Summer Lost His Socks (part 5)

Fall took the end of his Magic Tree stick and tickled Summer's feet. When he did that Summer's toes stood up straight and began to wiggle.

"At least we woke up his feet," Megan giggled.

"What's happening at your end?" Fall called to the White Raccoon.

The White Raccoon shook his head in disgust as he looked back inside Summer's ear. "He's dreaming of something silly," he said.

"Like what?" Michael asked.

"Baloney pie with pickle ice cream."

"That's pretty silly all right," said Megan.

"Maybe so," the White Raccoon agreed. "But what gets me is the chocolate sprinkles on top."

Megan giggled again . Michael groaned. Fall gave a sigh of defeat.

"I'm afraid his toes are going back to sleep!" he told them sadly.

They all looked back down at Summer's feet. Fall was right. The toes were all curled together again and none of them wiggled a bit anymore. And just to make sure that everyone knew how completely asleep his toes really were, Summer began to snore.

"This'll never work!" Michael said. "Whenever we try to wake him up he just makes it part of his dream."

"That's it!" Fall exclaimed.

"It is?" Megan asked.

"Absolutely! If Summer starts dreaming he's sailing away, he might actually do it! Hey, Raccoon. Talk to Summer inside his dream. Tell him to stand up and walk to his canoe!"

"Now hear this! Now hear this!" the White Raccoon intoned into Summer's ear. "This is the voice of your dreams speaking here. It's time for you to find your canoe and sail away to your house."

And what do you know, Fall's trick really worked. Even though Summer never did wake up, he got to his feet and began to walk.

"Keep on walking you bag of beans," the White Raccoon told him.
