There was nothing to do but continue on, so Fall took the tiller and Winter the sail. Summer lay down by the windward rail to ballast the keel and Spring sprang up to the top of the mast to sit in the crows nest. Then they all called the Windman and Whoooosh! The Windman came.
"What can I do for you?" he asked.
"We're sailing away across the sea to find a new place to live," Winter said. "We need you to come along with us to blow on our sails."
"All right," said the Windman. "I'll come."
And Whoooosh! The Windman blew into the sails and Summer and Fall and Winter and Spring turned the ship out to sea.
They sailed and sailed for days and days, travelling farther and farther away from the place where the First Land had been. And as they sailed they sang this song of remembering so they wouldn't forget their own true home where their hearts would always be:
This story is the second in a collection of seven stories and nine songs with numerous black and white pen and ink illustrations throughout. After Michael and Megan meet the Seasons, they have many adventures with Fall in particular as he steals Summer's socks, makes a chestnut pie for his friend the White Squirrel, and plays a Halloween trick on Winter. Many of the stories can be acted out and continued by the reader in their everyday life. Although this book is set in Toronto, it can be adapted to fit any North American urban centre.
